The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday identified a man who struck a deputy with his vehicle as the officer was responding to a report of a possible armed robbery on Tuesday.

Alexander West, 25, was shot by a second deputy during the incident, which happened Tuesday at about 12:30 a.m. at a shopping center at 5050 E. Arapahoe Road.

Officials said a preliminary investigation determined West’s actions were intentional. He was arrested and will be charged with attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer and first-degree assault, among other crimes.

His bond was set at $1 million.

He is in custody, but officials did not release the extent of his injuries.

Deputies were attempting to contact a vehicle in the parking lot of the shopping center when West reportedly made several turns in the lot before striking the officer, who was on foot near the liquor store. West was then shot by the second deputy.

Officials said the deputy’s injuries are non life-threatening. Both West and the officer were treated at the scene and at the hospital.

Officials said there was no robbery at the liquor store.
