Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District is looking for its first full-time fire chief.
The district has always relied on volunteer fire chiefs, but deputy chief Dan Hatlestad said with declining volunteer numbers, .
“It definitely demonstrates the increasing need for both a leader and a manager, and it also shows the change in volunteerism both in the U.S. and in the fire service,” Hatlestad said. “We just see a declining number of volunteers, and at the same time we see an increase in training requirements for volunteer staff and an increase in the expectations of services for our citizens.”
Randy Simpson has been Inter-Canyon’s volunteer chief since the summer of 2013. money from the department. MacBean pled guilty to embezzling more than $640,000 from the district .
Hatlestad said the district board has been working for more than a year to develop the extensive requirements for the fire chief position, which is listed .
The deadline for applicants is May 29. The district aims to fill the position by January 2016.
Founded in 1956, Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District serves an area of 52 square miles and operates five stations in the foothills southwest of Denver.
