The Colorado Rapids on Wednesday announced Kevin Doyle, the Irish international striker , will join the MLS outfit before the end of May.

The deal is pending the striker’s P-1 visa and ITC paperwork.

The Rapids said Doyle, 31, agreed to an early settlement of his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers, allowing the Rapids to add him prior to the May 12 closure of the primary transfer window.

“We always thought this might be a possibility if Wolves did not achieve their target of promotion,” technical director Paul Bravo said in a statement.

The early arrival is good news for a Rapids offense that has created scoring chances this season, but hasn’t had much luck. They have only eight goals in nine games.

Doyle was under contract through the end of Wolves season and wasn’t expected to arrive until July 1. The Rapids will get several extra weeks to integrate their new striker.

Doyle has 14 goals in 61 appearances with the Republic of Ireland national team. He has scored 92 goals in 352 appaearances in his career in English football since joining Reading in 2005.
