BOULDER — One of Boulder’s Memorial Day weekend traditions will be back this year, but another is being forced to improvise again because of lingering impacts from the 2013 flood.

Boulder Creek Festival organizers have announced that the highly popular EXPAND Duck Race, reconceived in 2014 as a ” rubber duck event” and held in an inflatable pool because of safety concerns over the newly unpredictable Boulder Creek, will be back in its traditional venue this month.

“All systems are go,” said Meg Denbow, spokeswoman for Boulder Creek Events, which is once again staging the Boulder Creek Festival.

All proceeds from the EXPAND Duck Race — set for 4 p.m. May 25 — benefit Boulder Parks and Recreation’s EXPAND Program, which provides recreational opportunities for youths and adults with disabilities.
