Free design materials

Are you looking to be creative with your budget? ZeroLandfill Denver hosts its Harvest Day on May 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Design Materials warehouse (10498 E. 49th Ave.) It’s a unique recycling event that allows the public to “shop” for free design materials. Local interior designers and architects donate expired samples, including fabric, tile, architectural glass, carpet, laminates and more. Artists, teachers and DIY fanatics can stock up on materials. The event is very popular, so arrive early and expect to wait in line. If you are looking for heavier items, like tile, bring along a cart or dolly for easier transport.

Salute to cops

Through May 16, Dunkin’ Donuts is honoring our men and women in blue by offering a free medium hot or iced coffee to all police officers in uniform. The relationship between police officers and coffee dates back years ago when beat cops took breaks in restaurants and bakeries whose owners (knowing cops didn’t earn big bucks) offered them complimentary coffee, donuts and meals. Participating locations include: Aurora — 16611 Smoky Hill Road and 2323 S. Havana St.; Boulder — 3235 28th St.; Denver — 366 Broadway and 4761 Tower Road; Edgewater — 2001 Sheridan Blvd.; Thornton — 8775 Washington St.; and Westminster — 7615 W. 88th Ave.

Here’s the scoop

While Häagen-Dazs has no actual meaning in any language, it translates to “delicious” for many. The ice cream giant hosts its annual Free Cone Day on May 12. From 4 to 8 p.m., Häagen-Dazs shops will be giving customers a free scoop of ice cream. No purchase necessary. The offer is for one free kiddie-size ice cream in a cup, sugar cone or cake cone. Limit one per person. There are five participating locations – Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Lakewood and Westminster.

New mad greens deal

MAD Greens is at it again with a new Lone Tree restaurant. On May 14, the local salad company will celebrate its grand opening at 10002 Commons St. in Lone Tree with Free Salad Day. From 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., stop by the new location and get a salad (with chicken) and drink for free, while supplies last. Limit one combo per customer. Expect long lines.

Each Monday, Laura Daily and Bryan K. Chavez compile “Cheap Checklist” to help you find deals, discounts and freebies. Know of a deal? E-mail info@milehighonthecheap.com 10 to 14 days in advance.
