Nine firefighting crews are battling a lightning-caused fire that broke through the roof of an apartment complex, authorities say.

The lightning strike happened at about 2 p.m. on the 3600 block of South Depew Street, said Melissa Taylor, Denver fire spokeswoman.

“It sounds like a particularly significant fire,” Taylor said. “We’re bringing in more resources.”

About 35 firefighters from Denver and the West Metro Fire Protection District were trying to control the fire that broke through the roof line, she said.

So far, there have been no reported injuries, Taylor said.
