On Monday morning, Weld County had 24 county-maintained roads that were closed because of last weekend’s flooding.

By 5 p.m., only three of them had re-opened.

“There are certainly challenges, but this area is prone to flooding and the people here are pretty familiar with how to get around when this happens,” said spokeswoman Jennifer Finch.

The good news was that the three re-opened roads were in the Dacono area, a major traffic area in the region. Also, Finch added, U.S. 34, which was closed Monday afternoon between Weld County roads 41 and 47, the site of the permanent reconstruction project from the 2013 floods, was also slated to re-open in the evening.

Finch said county officials felt the Platte and Poudre rivers had crested, with the water levels expected to drop. Public works crews were out in the area assessing damage to roads.

“They’re checking the integrity,” Finch said. “There will probably be more opened (Tuesday), with the goal being to have most them re-opened by the end of the week.”
