Federal wildlife managers plan to release 30 captive-bred black-footed ferrets at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge so that the endangered animals can hunt prairie dogs. (Kathryn Scott Osler, Denver Post file)

Re: “Endangered ferrets to be released at once-toxic Rocky Mountain refuge,” May 8 news story.

Regarding your article on introduction of black-footed ferrets to the prairie dog towns on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal: this is a shining example of what the Endangered Species Act was intended for. Everyone can support and celebrate the fantastic conservation success story that this represents. On the other hand, 99.99 percent of people wouldn’t know a Preble’s meadow jumping mouse or a delta smelt if it slapped them in the face.
