Five students ingested marijuana May 7 at Skinner Middle School, and one student was taken to a hospital at the request of her parents, Denver police said. (Brent Lewis, The Denver Post)

Re: “Denver police: Five students at Skinner Middle School ingest pot edibles; girl cited,” May 8 news story.

I’m shocked — shocked — that children are ingesting marijuana.

This was a predictable outcome in the legalization and liberalization of marijuana in Colorado. The proponents of Amendment 64 should hang their heads in shame. The unintended consequences will plague this state for years to come.

Not only have the profiteers made marijuana readily accessible, they also package the drug in edible goodies. How can children resist this wonderful treat? Now they can get it right at home, from their parents.

It won’t be long until educators in Colorado will make the great discovery that children who are exposed to and are ingesting marijuana will test much lower than their counterparts. Marijuana will hamper their mental development.
