Sheridan police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide Tuesday morning at a trailer park.

Nicholas Benhmida, 27, was considered “armed and dangerous,” according to the police department. He was detained at about 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Denny’s restaurant near Wadsworth and US 285.

The fatal shooting was reported at about 8:15 a.m. on the 3500 block of South King Street.

Sheridan Police Chief Mark Campbell the homicide came after an argument between a man and his stepson. Officers say the stepson left to get a gun and then came back and shot his stepfather.

A number of nearby schools were placed on lockdown, including Mullen High School. The lockdowns have been lifted.

“A situation has occurred near Mullen and under the advisement of the Denver Police Department the campus has been placed on lockdown,” the school posted on its website. “All external doors to the campus are currently locked. Classes will resume as usual.”

Sheridan police declined to immediately comment on the case, posting limited information about the case on their Twitter account.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
