IBOTTA

Coupons are so last century. But saving money never goes out of style. Ibotta, instead, offers rebates for products consumers want to buy. The catch? You’ve got to earn the rebate by completing tasks like learning facts about a product, watching a video or taking a poll. And then you need to buy the product. And then you need to scan in your receipt. Ibotta pays the money to PayPal or Venmo accounts. The company, which received $20 million in venture capital last year, has about 2 million “sticky” customers who keep coming back to play its game.

Recent news: Ibotta realized 70 percent of its shoppers also buy milk. This month, it added about 20 generic rebates offering discounts on milk, bananas and other everyday grocery items, no matter what brand.
