Re: “Holmes deranged but guilty,” May 10 Mike Rosen column; and “ Onward, Christian Huckabee,” May 10 George F. Will column.

I am disgusted by the language used by columnists George F. Will and Mike Rosen in last Sunday’s Perspective. They described two mentally ill people as “crazy, deranged, demented” (the Aurora theater shooting suspect) and “lunatic” (the man who killed 26 people in Newtown, Conn). The people that Rosen and Will described are human beings with mental illness, a biological disorder of the brain.

Clearly, Will and Rosen have not witnessed the suffering caused by mental illness to the ill and their family and friends. They have further stigmatized those people suffering from mental illness. They should use their influence to advocate for better treatment of mental illness. They should educate and not inflame.
