Re: “The joy and anguish of being a mother,” May 10 Perspective article.

Karen Roberts really nails what itap like to be the mom of a disabled child. I can relate to her desire to sometimes just “blend in” and not be so vigilant and responsible.

On the other hand, as she points out, this is also an experience that opens up the world to you in surprising ways. You are no longer connected to the world through “normal” relationships and experiences, but through unusual, sometimes mystical insights that seem meant for you alone.

Never would you have imagined that the warmth of the sun, or the beauty of the flowers, or a song on the radio that touches your soul, would become small moments of grace.
