Aurora police responded to a call of multiple shots fired early Sunday, shortly before a man walked into a hospital critically wounded with gun shot wound to the leg.

Police are investigating the incident, but so far have no suspects, said police Sgt. Chris Amsler.

Officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired at 23rd Avenue and Dayton Street at 4:09 a.m., Amsler said.

“When we get up there we locate a bunch of shell casings and blood in the street, however, no victim,” he said. They also found shell casings at 23rd and Emporia Street.

“A short time later an adult male victim comes into the (University of Colorado Hospital) ER.”

The man is in critical condition, he said.

Police don’t know if the incident was gang related, Amsler said.
