Interview with Nicolette Wilson, skin therapist/owner and operator

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: I have always had skin issues. Feeling like my skin was never perfect, I developed a passion and deep interest in skin care. This passion led me to work within the beauty care industry and to learn a lot about skin and products. I became increasingly interested in product ingredients, their affect on and in the skin, and the routine and ritual associated with skin care product and application. As I learned more about the ingredients and their many uses, I was wanting more. I wanted to help people understand their skin, educate them on what type of skin they have and how to effectively care for it. From this desire, I went to school to become an esthetician.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: Root Skin prides itself on advanced skin education and delivers this education to the client so their skin is treated appropriately and effectively. With this education, the client is also informed on how to efficiently care for their skin at home between professional treatments. Clients find that learning about their skin and how to care for it inspires them to invest in their own skin health, and creates an important connection between the client and Root Skin.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: What I love best about being a skin therapist is the opportunity to connect with my clients and create a customized treatment for them. Developing these relationships enables me to establish trust with each of my clients and deliver effective treatments that inspire my clients to take charge of their skin.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: Trying to come up with and develop creative, inexpensive and effective marketing tactics has been challenging.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: I am an artist. I make jewelry, paint, draw, sculpt, design and craft. I have my own artwork in my skin studio.
