Interview with Kathryn Mitchem, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I opened Studio B Yoga over two years ago as a place where people of all ages could come and feel comfortable coming to classes in a welcoming, warm, non-judgemental space. We have always offered a wide variety of classes from prenatal, Baby and Me, kids yoga camps and beginners yoga up to Vinyasa flow and heated power classes. After teaching yoga for 15 years and running the studio, I have added my work as a Satori lifestyle coach to the studio by offering Satori yoga classes as well as individual and group coaching to help people take the peace and harmony they feel from Yoga off the mat and into their day-to-day lives.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are really a one-stop shop for mind and body wellness. Our awesome variety and convenient class times throughout the week make it easy for our students to find classes and instructors that they love. With the Satori yoga classes and lifestyle oaching, we can now teach people simple tools to find more peace and balance in their everyday lives, not just when they are at class. We are also under the same roof as Alpine Ridge Salon and Spa, so students can schedule massage, facials, nails and even haircuts before or after classes.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Knowing that each student leaves with a greater sense of strength, balance and most importantly, inner peace that they can take with them. I also love seeing how each of my Satori clients — both in the group coaching and one-on-one sessions — come to discover that they can practice these simple tools and find relief from years of stress in just a few sessions.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: I think our biggest challenge is making sure we have enough yoga instructors and Satori teachers and coaches to keep up with our demand. We offer trainings and certifications through our studio, so that we can keep offering lots of class and coaching times for clients.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I am truly living the life of my dreams. As a long-time yoga instructor, I have always been interested in teaching people tools to take the feeling of harmony and peace they feel after a yoga class and into their lives. Studio B has become a spot where instructors and coaches like me can truly share our passion for yoga and the yoga lifestyle with our community. We can also work with people from all over the world through phone and Skype sessions.
