Pueblo County Commissioner Sal Pace normally doesn’t pay close attention to Denver City Council races, but there are several good reasons he’s rooting for Aaron Greco in District 7.

Pace and Greco were roommates at Fort Lewis College and worked together for Congressman John Salazar, a Manassa Democrat. Greco served as best man at Pace’s wedding to Marlene Valdez in 2006 and he is godfather to Wyatt, . Pace is a former House minority leader and .

Greco’s got his work cut out for him in the . In the initial election May 5, , receiving 26 percent of the vote. Greco came in second with 16 percent, but only 28 votes ahead of former state Rep. Anne McGihon. The race went to a runoff because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes.

Jolon Clark

Clark is on leave from his job as associate director of the Greenway Foundation. Greco, who also has worked for Congressman Ed Perlmutter, is a local government liaison for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Greco managed Salazar’s 2002 campaign for the state House. Both Greco and Pace worked on Salazar’s first congressional campaign in 2004, and then went to work for Salazar.
