Political consultant Mike Stratton never missed one of his son’s football games, even when traveling the state with a Democratic candidate or .

In fact, he made every one of Sam’s games since his son was a 9-year-old playing Little League football, then a standout at Chatfield High School and finally playing five years for the University of Wyoming. That’s pretty impressive when you consider Stratton worked for such Democrats as Senate candidates Ken Salazar and Mark Udall and presidential hopeful Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

But then this year, Stratton missed one game, then another and another — and it’s not even an election year.

Sam , a German team. He recently threw for four touchdowns in the . the younger Stratton, but he always wanted to keep playing football. With the Spiders, his dream continues.

“How would you like to be 23 and on the loose and have someone paying you to hang out in Europe?” Stratton asked.

He’ll get to find out June 21 where he heads to Europe to watch his son play.

Stratton also never missed any of his son Matt’s golf matches. Matt now is 26 and a doctor.

“Where there’s a will there’s a way,” Stratton said, adding missing his sons’ outings was never an option. “That was time I would never have gotten back and anything I would have missed I would have regreted so I’m glad I don’t have anything to regret.”
