Getting your player ready...
When their kids moved on from their home near San Francisco, Marcus and Michelle Hermosillo packed their bags and toured Oregon, Washington, and the Texas hill country as possible destinations with less congestion and better air quality, before locking in on Colorado. “It kept calling us back,” said Michelle, at TRI Pointe Homes’ model complex on the west side of Candelas in Arvada – close to where the 4,000-acre Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge is being prepared for a possible opening next year, beneath a panorama of the Flatirons and Ralston Buttes.
Just as Colorado did, these sharp-looking TRI Pointe designs have been calling Marcus and Michelle back – much more imaginative than most production-built models you’ve likely toured. On the morning I stopped in, the couple was back for visit number-three, bringing along coffee for TRI Pointe’s sales rep Stephanie Alvarez; and after I left, they wrote a contract with her. The Hermosillos had already seen everything else in town – new builder areas as well as the resale home scene along the western edge of Denver and Boulder.
“It’s either going to be TRI Pointe or a custom builder,” Michelle said when we chatted. Urging them toward the former were “their layouts and the design of the community” – plus TRI Pointe’s location in Candelas, just east of Highway 93 at Highway 72, close to the scenic foothills, and close enough in to Boulder to put its dining scene, parks and other attractions in easy reach.
Without the kids at home, the couple was leaning toward the 2,955-square-foot Residence One ranch plan you’ll tour – but sometime later in the day they locked on a 2-story Residence 4 plan – one that shows how seamlessly TRI Pointe integrates its elegant interiors with prominent outdoor living spaces in every one of these plans. They’ll now begin choosing from extensive options to have their own home personalized, on a site that backs to Candelas open space.
With a move to be made from California, the time commitment doesn’t bother them – however, TRI Pointe has two homes on track that could get you into this scene by early summer; and a third that could deliver in October. Alvarez will show you a Residence 3 design set for move-in right away with five bedrooms and 5-1/2 baths, showing a main-floor master suite, study, covered outdoor room, and a chef’s kitchen with staggered upper cabinets, gas cooktop, farmhouse sink and slab granite tops. The price of $750,601 includes air conditioning, front yard landscaping and a 1.4-kilowatt solar system.
All of these Encore Collection plans show a dramatic blending of indoor and outdoor-living spaces, along with a scale of home site that’s harder to find now – all larger than 9,000 square feet with most averaging around a quarter-acre. The commute into University of Colorado is around 15 minutes, 18 minutes into Interlocken or the Foothills high-tech corridor. Prices start from the mid-$500s – way, way below what this quality of home goes for around Boulder.
And you’ll see where Candelas has its second rec center and Olympic-sized pool slated to arrive, right in the neighborhood, with a park with ball field and basketball courts, linked to community trails that will eventually connect to the Wildlife Refuge site. The neighborhood feeds into Jefferson County’s coveted Meiklejohn Elementary, Wayne Carle Middle and Ralston Valley High Schools.
To visit these, take Indiana north from W. 64th Avenue in Arvada 2.5 mi. to Highway 72/Coal Creek Canyon and turn west three miles to El Diente. Or if coming from Boulder, take Highway 93 south, nine miles to Highway 72, then turn east a mile.
