Heavy traffic for the Rocky Mountain Air Show has led authorities to urge patience — and offer a second chance.
As bumper-to-bumper traffic stalled on along E-470 enroute to the event at Aurora Rerservoir, organizers, the Colorado State Patrol, Arapahoe Sheriff and Aurora police noted on Twitter that a traffic plan was in place because of the estimated crowd of more than 30,000.
The state patrol called the traffic delays “epic” and warned motorists to have a full tank of gas.
The patrol cited “Tremendous traffic delays on E470 from Smoky Hill north to Jewell. Quincy and Gun Club at a standstill all due to the Airshow.”
Show organizers said that Saturday tickets would be honored for one-time entrance to Sunday’s event if people were unable to make it in.
However, organizers said heavy crowds were expected again Sunday and people shouldarrive early and leave lots of time. Parking lots open at 7 a.m.
Also, organizers suggested that show-goers try alternate routes including:
• I-70 to Watkins Road south to Quincy then east to the venue.
• Hampden Avenue to Gun Club Road, then Gun Club South to Quincy then east to the venue.
• Smokey Hill to Gun Club Road and then North to Quincy approaching the venue from the east.
• Parker Road to Quincy then Quincy east to venue.
