Big news arrived Monday from the NCAA for Colorado State football, first-year coach Mike Bobo and especially for tight end Mitch Parsons.
Parsons, a transfer from Vanderbilt and former four-star prospect, was ruled eligible to play this season and will not have to sit out the usual transfer year.
Parsons, 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, earned all-state honors at Chaparral High School in Parker as a senior in 2013 after catching 45 passes for 754 yards and seven touchdowns. He chose Vanderbilt after also considering offers from Arizona State, California and Mississippi.
Parsons has used a redshirt year and will be a sophomore at CSU this fall. He practiced with the Rams this spring.
Depth at tight end has been a concern for Colorado State. The Rams return 2014 starter Steven Walker, who is now a senior. But the availability of former starter Kivon Cartwright is unclear. Cartwright sat out most of the 2014 season and then 2015 spring drills with an ankle injury that required surgery.
