Authorities have identified a 35-year-old Denver man killed in a single-vehicle Park County crash near Fairplay on Saturday afternoon that also left two children injured.
Benjamin Anderson, who was not wearing his seatbelt and ejected from the 1997 Lexus SUV he was riding in, was pronounced dead at the scene of the U.S. 285 wreck, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Officials say a 16-year-old Oklahoma girl was behind the wheel of the Lexus when it crashed at about 3:30 p.m. roughly three miles north of Fairplay.
The state patrol says the SUV was heading northbound when it went off the right side of the road, swerved left into southbound traffic and then veered back right into a delineator post.
The vehicle “became airborne and rolled multiple times, coming to rest on its wheels facing northwest,” the state patrol said in a news release issued late Saturday.
The driver and an 11-year-old girl from Durango sitting in the front passenger seat were taken to hospitals for injuries they sustained in the wreck. An update on their condition was not immediately available.
“Neither excessive speed nor alcohol is considered a factor in the crash,” according to the state patrol. “However, the crash remains under investigation.”
Officials did not say how the three were related.
