Gas prices have started to tame, with average prices in Denver inching up only a penny in the past week, GasBuddy.com reported Monday.

At the Sunday benchmark, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in metro Denver was $2.58. Nationwide, average prices rose 0.4 cents to $2.76, according to fuel price website .

“We’re finally starting to get a well-needed respite from rising gasoline prices across the country, led by California’s nearly double digit per gallon decline in the last week,” Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said in a statement. “While some states did indeed see increases over the last week, I remain optimistic after OPEC’s meeting last week to keep oil production unchanged that we’ll soon see relief spreading across more of the country.”

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries last week said its output level . OPEC’s secretary general said crude costs likely would remain low for a while.

Denver’s current gas prices are 83.9 cents lower than last year.

In Colorado, a gallon of gasoline averaged at $2.609 per gallon, up 1.4 cents from last week. Fuel prices across most of the Front Range counties are below $2.60 with the Western slope and southwestern counties logging per-gallon averages upward of $2.80.
