When Ray Charles’ “Georgia On My Mind” played during Broncos’ stretch Tuesday, it prompted speculation it was intended for receiver Demaryius Thomas, who is working out in Atlanta.
Turns out it was a random coincidence from the Pandora playlist.
Thomas has not signed his $12.82-million franchise tag contract, meaning he is not subject to a fine for missing this week’s mandatory workouts. Coach Gary Kubiak remains in contact with Thomas, and swapped text messages Tuesday.
Kubiak said receiver is the toughest position to learn in his offense because of the new audible language at the line of scrimmage.

“I know he’s working. I don’t know if it’s ever the same if you are not working with the guys. But it’s going to get worked out. He’s going to be here. He’s going to be a great football player for this team just like he always has been,” Kubiak said. “It’s our job as coaches when he does come in to see exactly where he’s at, where we need to go, and make sure we have a plan to get there. We can’t just day one say, ‘Go, you’ve got it all.’ “

Thomas is exercising limited leverage in an attempt to land a new contract. He has until July 15 to reach a long-term deal with the Broncos or play the 2015 season under the tag. Thomas’ status has long been linked to Dez Bryant’s negotiations. There was enough progress in Bryant’s talks for him to show up at Cowboys camp recently, but no deal has been struck.
