Interview with Jim Kimsey, owner, and Josh Kimsey, general manager
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I was looking for business opportunities during the debt crisis. Bubbles was the only business I came across that was making money. The store was for sale and I placed the highest offer for the store.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Bubbles separates itself from its competition by providing a vast product selection combined with an extremely knowledgeable staff. Our staff is also very customer service- focused. The combination of these attributes allows our customers to plan everything from an elegant dinner party to a family barbecue. In addition to our large selection, we offer weekly wine tastings, wine pairings and party planning to help customers maximize their events while minimizing their costs.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: Working with our community and customers is the best aspect of our line of work. No one is unhappy picking out a nice bottle of wine or their favorite beer. We also partner with several local charitable organizations by sponsoring community events or providing silent auction items.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Our biggest challenge has been keeping a local brand amidst the constant pressure of large retail chains attempting to enter the liquor business in Colorado. We have to maintain a better selection and better pricing continuously.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Our busiest day of the year is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We have more than 3,000 customers, and every employee working hard to get all of our customers in and out of the store as efficiently as possible and on to their family celebrations.
