Interview with Jason Moe, co-owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: It was something that Ty, my business partner, and I always wanted to do. We wanted to do a bar, but when we looked into it, we saw that there was a brewpub classification for a liquor license and we decided to do it that way. There have been a lot of breweries popping up, and we kind of wanted to have both at the same time. We picked this area because no other similar businesses were around, and we ended up being the first brewpub in unincorporated Adams County.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: We have a really laid back atmosphere here. We’ve got an awesome Bloody Mary off the menu that we make with infused vodka. We’ve obviously got excellent beer, but we’ve also got excellent mixed drinks that are not very common. We infuse vodkas and we have an infused whiskey. I think that a lot of other brewpubs have basic, sub-par beer and standard drinks, but we’ve combined original mixed drinks and our awesome brews.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: I like setting my hours, and meeting and talking to all the people who come in and enjoy our brews. People come in here and just want to get away, and I can oblige them for a short while here. Making the beer is a lot of hard work, but it’s fun and interesting.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: Our biggest challenge is keeping up with the demand for our brews and trying to sustain inventory. We have 10 beers on tap right now, and when one of them gets popular, there’s a struggle to maintain that supply. We’re getting there, though, and we’re able to bridge that gap now.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: I think what people are typically surprised about in particular is that our name is Creede and we are not in Creede, Colo. It’s a tribute to the town and the tradition of the Wild West. Creede was a boon town in the late 1800s, and when people come in our brewpub, they’re not sure what that means. But they look at the pictures and the beers and we’re able to talk to them about it and explain the naming convention of our beers, like the Short Fuse Scottish Ale and the Poker Alice Brown Ale. Ty spent his summers in Creede growing up, and I get up there a couple times a year.
