GRAND JUNCTION — Prosecutors say a man was justified when he fatally shot another man who brandished a shotgun in front of his home in Fruita.

Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says Paul Delancey was within his rights when he shot 27-year-old Joshua Chasteen in the chest in April.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Chasteen was armed with a gun when he jumped in the bed of a pickup driven by Delancey’s wife. Donna Delancey called her husband, who told her to drive home.

The DA says Chasteen was shot during a struggle with Paul Delancey in Delancey’s front yard.
