COLORADO SPRINGS — With tears in her eyes, real estate developer Jannie Richardson hugged her lawyer after a jury found her not guilty Friday of charges that she exploited an elderly man.
Nearly 15 of her friends and family members in the courtroom hugged one another, some also on the verge of tears.
A family member who was not present when the verdict was read ran up to the celebrating group and, in joyous shock, asked, “Are you sure? Did you hear that from the judge?” before running into the courtroom for verification.
Richardson was acquitted shortly after 1 p.m. of charges that she stole nearly $1 million from 84-year-old Nelson “Buz” Rieger, a former business associate who has Alzheimer’s disease.
