Re: “Under SCFD plan, creativity loses,” June 7 guest commentary.
I am so happy that Wellington Webb and Eric Sondermann spoke up about the recent shortsighted decision of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District board. By accepting the task force’s recommendations on the inequitable distribution of future tax funds among the SCFD’s three tiers, the board missed the opportunity to nurture the smaller arts organization into what decades of citizens’ support had handed to the five large Tier I cultural players.
Everywhere I go in the country, Denver’s SCFD tax is a marvel among arts groups. But the only way for the arts to be embraced by all socio-economic and ethnic groups in metro Denver is to grow the infrastructure of the many multicultural small arts groups throughout the surrounding counties.
