Of course, Sen. Nancy Todd named her campaign kickoff her “Final Four” — she was born in Lawrence, Kan., and is a diehard Jayhawks fan.

Todd, an Aurora Democrat, is running for her last term in office, hence the “Final Four” theme at her kickoff beginning at 5 tonight at the Dry Dock Brewery in Aurora. She served in the House starting in 2005 and in 2012 successfully ran for the Senate.

Although the retired schoolteacher has been a Democrat for years, when the House celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Republican party in 2005, Todd admitted not only did she use to be a Republican but as a college student she interned for then U.S. Sen. Bob Dole.

Todd also claims another Kansas distinction: She was Miss Lawrence and then Miss Kansas and competed in the Miss World contest in 1965.

“Oh to be that size again,” she said after looking through her pictures.

We hear ya, sister.
