A reprieve from the wet weather allowed Elitch Gardens amusement park on Sunday to debut its beast of a water ride, the $2.5 million SlideZilla.
, classified as a hybrid slide, sends an inner tube of two to four riders down an enclosed tube and into a swirling, 24-foot “BehemothBowl.” The riders then plunge 57 feet to crest the 4-story-high “TornadoWave” before heading toward another splashdown.
The addition of the 6-story-tall SlideZilla comes as part of broader multimillion-dollar upgrades to the water park at Elitch Gardens, located in downtown Denver at 2000 Elitch Circle. The park backed by sports and real estate mogul Stan Kroenke.
Officials for , the Denver-based real estate firm that led the purchase, said there are no development or redevelopment plans for the theme and water park that has a 125-year history.
