LITTLETON — Former longtime Heritage coach Ray Barron is being inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association hall of fame.

Barron will be inducted on Friday, June 19, at the NHSCA’s annual national convention to be held at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester, Minn. This year’s class includes 30 coaches from 16 states.

For the first time in decades, Barron did not coach wrestling in 2014-15. He left Heritage (in Littleton) after disagreeing with administration, which he insisted made several questionable decisions, including those involving coaches. He said there were “a series of lies and a lack of loyalty.”

Despite missing his first wrestling season since 1972, Barron’s credentials remain impressive and go well beyond Colorado. He coached for 42 years, had a dual-meet record of 478-160-4 and was a three-sporter at Hinkley in Aurora.

Barron, 65, also is a member of the National Wrestling hall of fame.

He helped coach weight throws at Columbine last season and hasn’t ruled out returning to wrestling.
