COLORADO SPRINGS — It wasn’t long after her credit card declined a $511.37 purchase late Monday night that Catherine Rowland sent ceiling tiles crashing down in a Colorado Springs Safeway, court records show.
The 31-year-old woman got wedged inside a wall near frozen foods after she climbed into the grocery store’s ceiling to try to escape from police after a manager caught her attempting to shoplift, according to her arrest affidavit.
When Rowland’s credit card denied her purchase several times, she said she would need to go get money from her husband.
A grocery manager at the store on Murray Boulevard said he would need to look inside her bag and a cardboard box she was holding, the affidavit says.
