The board of directors of the Westmoreland Coal Co. gave the go-ahead for the Douglas County-based mining firm to acquire the San Juan Mine in New Mexico, company officials announced Tuesday.
Under the planned acquisition, , (Nasdaq: WLB) will purchase the Farmington, N.M., mine from BHP Billiton and also ink a multi-year coal supply agreement with Public Service of New Mexico and owners of the San Juan Generating Station.
The acquisition is expected to be finalized on July 1 and close on Dec. 31, 2015.
The proposed coal supply agreement runs through June 30, 2022.
