A lightning strike at a Colorado Springs construction site left five men injured — one of them seriously — on Wednesday afternoon.
The strike happened near East Woodmen Road and Tutt Boulevard at about 1:30 p.m., said Capt. Steven E. Oswald, Colorado Springs Fire Department spokesman. Oswald said three of the men were taken to a hospital. One patient remains hospitalized for observation.
The others have been treated and released. All five were construction workers at a site where an apartment complex is being built.
Officials initially said four men were injured.
None of the men took a direct hit from the lightning, Oswald told The Gazette.
The men were spread out and most likely were injured when the lightning struck and sent a surge of electricity through equipment they were using.
