Re: “Coterie celebrates its 100th year with lunch, vintage fashion show,” June 21 Joannne Davidson column.
To set the historical record straight, Coterie is not the “oldest women’s literary group in Denver,” not by a long shot.
There are much older examples of such women’s groups, including the Fortnightly Club (1881), the Woman’s Club of Denver (1894) and the best known, the Denver Woman’s Press Club (1898). A large number of other women’s literary groups, no longer existing, were founded in the late 1800s.
Such rewrites of history too often obscure the facts.
