Welcome to our feature highlighting the numerous Colorado tech companies that make cool stuff. These little snippets are intended for readers to explore the technology being made right here. One company at a time, of course.

Rachio

Yell at your sprinkler panel all you want. It won’t listen. But Rachio’s Iro system adds smartness to the controller so you can “talk” to it via a smartphone and tweak every zone differently.

Some need to get smarter. But a home sprinkler system that turns on when it notices the neighbor’s house is on fire? How about one that sprays a rabbit munching on your garden? Or one that notices when temps drop below zero so it will keep a trickle of water moving through the pipes? Rachio’s boxy IRO can, technically, do all that. It may need a little tweaking (Rachio’s mobile app lets users customize each zone for watering time, slope, sprinkler nozzle, etc.). Plus, you may need another “thing,” like the Nest Protect smoke alarm, which on when smoke is detected. There’s also Rachio’s growing community of users sharing new tricks and tips so are endless, like if there’s excessive wind. All this from Denver, plus it manufactures it all in Loveland.
