Have the Broncos upgraded from Rahim Moore at safety with Darian Stewart?
Too soon to reach a verdict says Denver Broncos beat writer Troy Renck.
“He’s a different type of free safety, so I don’t want to say that yet,” Renck said. “Rahim Moore was pretty good at what he did — he directed traffic, he was kind of the centerfielder who’s not going to dive and make a crazy play but he’s going to do a lot of smart things, but he wasn’t a great tackler.”
Renck said Stewart is more like a strong safety playing free safety.
“He hits more like T.J Ward,” he said. “He’s physical.”
“If he can stay healthy with his legs, he brings a physical presence from that position that we’re not used to,” he said. “We could see a combo with Ward and Stewart where you have two of the hardest thumping safeties in the league.”
Rahim Moore signed a three-year $12 million contract with the Houston Texans this offseason. Darian Stewart, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, signed a two-year $4.5 million contract with the Broncos.
