Agribusiness giant Cargill Inc. has agreed to sell its U.S.-based pork business to Brazilian meatpacker JBS SA for $1.45 billion.

Greeley-based JBS has completed more than a dozen acquisitions since 2005, including poultry business Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. In June, it announced a $1.5 billion deal for the European poultry unit of its local rival Marfrig Global Foods SA.

The deal includes meat processing plants in Ottumwa, Iowa, and Beardstown, Ill., that processed a total of 9.3 million hogs last year, as well as five feed mills and four hog farms.

JBS entered the U.S. pork market with the 2007 purchase of Swift & Co.
