Getting your player ready...

Free-agent frenzy? I applaud the Nuggets taking point guard Emmanuel Mudiay over Duke forward Justise Winslow in the NBA draft, but I see that the team’s big goals during free agency are re-signing Jameer Nelson and Will Barton. Woo hoo!

Keith,views sarcasm as art form

Kiz: We certainly understand the Nuggets being giddy about Mudiay falling to them in the draft. But while San Antonio signs LaMarcus Aldridge in free agency, if Nelson qualifies as a big get for Denver, I humbly suggest the Nuggets drop the giddy and get back to work. Once the hullabaloo of free agency begins to dwindle, Denver can let the trade interest in Ty Lawson heat up. The Denver backcourt isn’t big enough for Mudiay and Lawson.

Boycott the ballpark. I applaud the Philadelphia Phillies for bringing in Andy MacPhail, a veteran baseball man, to run an organization that needs help. The Rockies’ season is over and has been for a month. Paying customers — if they are baseball fans and not just partiers on the party deck — should boycott the Rockies. It’s the only hope we have.

Kiz: If fans want to enjoy an afternoon in the sun at Coors Field or want to buy a ticket to watch visiting star Mike Trout hit, I can’t blame them. So I appreciate the theory behind a boycott, but it seems like a better idea when typed in an angry e-mail than when put into practice on a warm summer evening. Now, if shortstop Troy Tulowitzki asks out of Denver, it would send a louder message to Rockies ownership than the ranting of some knucklehead sports columnist.

Love story. That was a terrific column on Megan Rapinoe. She represents the spirit, determination and skill of the U.S. women’s national soccer team. Perhaps uncharacteristic is her sexual orientation. But we accept the religion of others and racial differences in sports, so why not one’s choice of partner? As you said, Kiz, love is what counts in the long run.

Kiz: There is no cheering in the press box. But if we here at Kickin’ It Headquarters bought replica jerseys, one of the first purchased would be the No. 15 worn by Rapinoe.

And today’s parting shot is directed at Donald Trump, the presidential candidate whose name is prominently associated with one of the top tournaments on the PGA Tour.

In the aftermath of racist remarks made by Trump, wouldn’t it be great if the PGA Tour stepped in and pulled its tournament at Doral? That would get his attention. Nothing else seems to faze The Donald.
