A Denver Post headline from May 7, 2015 from read: “Fading Rockies turn Coors Field into saddest place on Earth.” In the article, The Post’s Mark Kiszla describes the Colorado Rockies falling into last place as the club’s owner Dick Monfort sat among 40,000 empty seats.

was nearly the opposite scene on Friday as nearly 42,000 were filled to see rather than the Rockies.

Zac Brown Band’s setlist included 27 songs and three hours of music. His ability to cater to both country and rock fans shined through as he bounced from his own chart hits to covers of bands including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Metallica and Queen.

Thousands of fans crowded the outfield, where seats and a dance floor were placed on material to (hopefully) protect the field. The enormous stage was placed against center field and shot sound all the way to the top deck of seats. Thanks to satellite monitors placed in the infield, fans from the 100 level to the 300 level still got a full mix. Basically, there wasn’t a bad seat in the house.

Concertgoers twirled around the outfield dancing two step as the crowd in the stands raised their flashlight apps in the air begging for an encore.

“This is a very, very special night to be the first band to play in this stadium. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you,” said Brown as he returned to the stage.

Brown’s encore included “Heavy Is the Head” (“Jekyll + Hyde,” 2015), and “Chicken Fried” (“Home Grown,” 2005).

Brown didn’t even bother to sing the chorus to “Chicken Fried.” He enjoyed the best seat in the stadium as he leaned back and watched as thousands of fans roar out the words in unison.

Brown ended the show by thanking Colorado’s own Big Head Todd and the Monsters for opening up the show.
