Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., speaks with reporters as Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., left and Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Tx., right, listen, after a policy luncheon at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, June 23. (Cliff Owen, The Associated Press)
Re: “McConnell: Senate unlikely to confirm ambassador to Cuba,” July 3 news story.
I found it amusing that Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he would oppose any confirmation of a U.S. ambassador to Cuba because Cuba is a “police state that is mired in the ’50s and ’60s.” Then, in the same story, McConnell said he favored taking away money from mass transit and bike paths to spend on roads and bridges.
Maybe if McConnell looked in the mirror, he might find some common ground with Cuba’s political leaders, since he is “mired in the ’50s and ’60s” as it relates to our transportation needs.
