People on the national food scene are buzzing about the series of pop-up dinners set on flower farms around the country, 10 events in seven states.

Pairing with local chefs, the dinners celebrate the “Slow Flowers” movement and its passion for local, seasonal, and sustainable floriculture.

In Colorado, the Field to Vase Dinner is particularly timely for flower lovers, who can get a double hit of summer blooms. The dinner will be held in Longmont on July 18, which happens to be the night before the Denver Art Museum debuts its new exhibition “Bloom: Painting Flowers in the Age of Impressionism,” which features favorites from Degas, Manet, Renoir, Cezanne and van Gogh.

The Field to Vase Dinner in Longmont will be held at The Fresh Herb Company, where six of the farm’s 10 acres are planted with such flower crops as larkspur, bachelor’s buttons, and bells of Ireland.

The evening starts with a private tour from flower farmers Chet and Kristy Anderson, and features a locally sourced four-course meal, at tables surrounded by flowers, from

Boulder-based pastry chef Miche Bacher of Niche Confections, author of “Cooking with Flowers,” will create the dessert using organic edible flowers and herbs from The Fresh Herb Company.
