Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson were among the GOP presidential hopefuls who attended this year’s Western Conservative Summit in Denver. They were joined by Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry and Scott Walker. (Theo Stroomer, Getty Images North America)
I attended the Western Conservative Summit last month in Denver and was pleased with the six Republican presidential candidates represented. Each spoke passionately about issues we face, about their qualifications and about our future. The field is strong.
The results of the straw poll spoke volumes to me about one thing. The people are finally fed up with politics as usual. They are tired of voting new people into U.S. House and Senate seats only to find that they arrive to threats of intimidation, to toe the party line or else. We are tired of the divisiveness in Washington, D.C., where there is such contempt for those across the aisle that people barely speak, let alone cooperate.
The Summit straw poll surprised many when Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, neither with political experience, finished first and second. I agree. Letap send non-politicians to Washington and take back our government for the people.
