A Denver man fell to his death Saturday night on the Mitchell Lake Trail. The man, who has yet to be identified, was hiking with friends when he lost his footing on a cliff face and fell about 60 feet, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heidi Prentup said Sunday.
Other hikers arrived just as the victim’s friends were trying to get to him and assisted the group in reaching him, Prentup said.
The victim was in his 40s, Prentup said.
The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group retrieved the victim’s body around 6 a.m. Sunday.
The Boulder County coroner’s office is investigating and will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
