Colorado Springs police say a man arrested Sunday on suspicion of assaulting and seriously injuring his two neighbors with a metal object is a federal corrections officer.

Frederick L. Wells, accused of first-degree assault in the case, works for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Florence, southwest of Colorado Springs, Lt. Catherine Buckley said.

Florence is home to three federal prisons, including the notorious Supermax, the United States’ highest-security prison, which houses the nation’s most infamous criminals and terrorists. Buckley said she didn’t know at which facility Wells works. The prisons bureau did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Police say their investigation revealed the assaults happened because of a neighborhood dispute.

KRDO-TV first reported Wells’ connection to the Bureau of Prisons.
