Health officials in Weld County say mosquitoes in one of three trap zones tested positive last week for West Nile virus.

The county health department says the zone includes the cities of Greeley and Evans.

Results are still pending on the other two zones, which include the Johnstown, Milliken and Gilcrest areas and the Firestone, Frederick and Fort Lupton, according to a Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment news release Monday.

Colorado’s this year was diagnosed in a Mesa County man, the state’s health department reported Wednesday. The department says it to find infected mosquitoes as summer continues.

Last year, 118 people in Colorado are known to have contracted West Nile virus, and four died.

Health officials advise using mosquito repellent — DEET is an effective ingredient — and otherwise avoid mosquitoes.
