The has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation into an unspecified issue.
Chris Henderson, now an Aurora Fire Department battalion chief, was put on paid leave “with an investigation pending,” department spokeswoman Capt. Diane Schroeder said Tuesday.
She would not elaborate, other than to to say an outside investigation has begun. KCNC first reported the news.
In 2010, Henderson became the first black deputy fire chief in Aurora and the highest-ranking African-American in fire service in Colorado at that time.
At that time, he told The Denver Post that diversifying the ranks of the fire department was a top priority. Aurora Fire Chief Mike Garcia was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
