A 55-year-old woman who from the Eagle County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, where she worked, was sentenced Monday to serve two years in a community corrections facility.
Brenda Wright was also ordered to pay restitution over $100,00 and fees for an independent accounting audit of the money she stole, according to a news release from the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Wright to theft between $20,000 and $100,000 and embezzlement of public funds.
Prosecutors say her crimes were discovered by the county’s clerk and recorder in August 2014 and she was arrested last December.
“Wright used her position with the clerk and recorder’s office to gain access to public funds where she exchanged checks for cash that she took out of the till and then manipulated the daily accounting balances,” the release said.
Wright had worked for the clerk and recorder’s office since 2007.
