A man pulled from the South Platte River on Tuesday morning is in critical condition, officials say.

Denver firefighters pulled the man, in his 70s, from the river after he went into the fast moving water near Confluence Park.

Melissa Taylor, spokeswoman for the Denver Fire Department, said he was pulled about 11:39 a.m. from the water near 35th Street and Arkins Court. He went into the water around 11:07, Taylor said.

Taylor said CPR was being performed as he was being taken to a local hospital. She said Tuesday afternoon that the main remains in critical condition.

Denver police assisted firefighters in locating the man, who was originally spotted south of where he was pulled from the South Platte.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
